DESCRIPTION:
Of a rectangle form, with central cusped in black calligraphy Qur’an,‘Bismillah’ In “Nastaliq”and inline border torques blue-containing a stylised yellow peacock tail on each side,against a cobalt blue background with polychrome floral spray, the cartouche set against a cobalt-blue ground with similar polychrome floral vine, the rectangular edges with plain black and yellow borders.

Qur’an, Bismillah-hir-Rahman-ir-Raheem, In Nastaliq.

As visible in the photograph, this panel is now assembled.
A single tile top left section it’s missing and clearly not visible on the panel mosaics in this photograph.
The mosaic panel reasonably attached and retained ,the surface of the tile panel suffers from small chips along the edges of the mosaic panels. There is some white surface encrustation that should be easy to clean. The reverse of the tile panel has a rough surface.
Lot Essay
Larger but similarly worked tiles with confronted peacock design are known. One is in the Louvre (inv.no.MAO 1189, Istanbul, Isfahan, Delhi. Three Capitals of Islamic Art.
