DESCRIPTION:
Of an exquisite square shape, Timurid engraved brass panel with concentric around inscriptions in deep naskh, the lobed throne decorated with an Arabic inscription in thuluth on a scrolling floral ground.
The centre of the brass panel is deeply cut-brass openwork in “KUFIC” inscriptions intertwined and bounded together in the centre with small pins throughout the cranium throne.
Footnote:
The influences of Safavid Persia can be seen on this panel in its use of fine brass cut Quranic inscriptions on its surface whereas the mica ground and shape are firmly of the deccantradition.
The cut-metalwork industry in Safavid in the seventeenth century is known by several surviving objects, such as those published in the book by Shellie R Canby.
